چکیده

Retinal artery occlusions (RAO) are characterized by the sudden obstruction of the arterial blood flow in the retinal circulation with consequent ischemic damage to the retina. RAO can be subdivided into several forms, including central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) and Branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO). Patients affected by CRAO experience a sudden, monocular loss of vision. On fundus biomicroscopy, if the retinal obstruction is incomplete a slight gray haze may be visible, but when the flow blockage is complete a progressive whitening and swelling of the inner retina develops. Patients affected by BRAO complain of sudden, partial or complete, visual loss associated with visual field damage. The area concerned by the BRAO shows evidence of acute retinal ischemia corresponding to the distribution of the occluded branch retinal artery. At present, there is no generally agreed treatment regimen for RAO, although a number of therapeutic interventions have been proposed. Copyright © 2012 S. Classification According to the involved vessels, RAO can be subdivided into several forms, including: • Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO). • Branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO). • Cilioretinal artery occlusion. • CRAO sparing cilioretinal artery. • CRAO associated with CRVO. • Ophthalmic artery occlusion. The two main forms are central retinal artery occlusion and branch retinal artery occlusion. Etiology The etiology of RAO encompasses many conditions, as summarized in table 1. Table 1. Etiology of RAO

Central Retinal Artery Occlusion following Macular Hole Surgery

Macular hole surgery has been found to be associated with certain complications such as iatrogenic retinal breaks, retinal detachment visual field defects, glaucoma and cataract. However, cases of central retinal artery occlusion following macular hole surgery have rarely been described. We present a case of central retinal artery occlusion occurring immediately following macular hole surgery, ...

Central Retinal Artery Occlusion with Sparing of Cilioretinal Artery Post Pulmonary Artery Stenting

Central retinal arterial occlusion is an ocular emergency. Central retinal artery occlusion following cardiac procedures have been described in adults. We describe a pediatric patient who developed central retinal artery occlusion following pulmonary artery stenting. It is important to highlight this potential risk to ensure early diagnosis and prompt treatment.

Sequential occlusion of the branch retinal artery and branch retinal vein in a patient with hypertension: an interventional case report

BACKGROUND There are some cases that reported central retinal vein occlusion accompanied by ciliary artery occlusion, however, combined branch retinal artery and vein occlusion is a rare condition that has been infrequently reported. We describe in this report one case of retinal vein occlusion and branch retinal artery occlusion occurring simultaneously. CASE PRESENTATION A 50 year-old woman...

A case of cilioretinal artery occlusion resembling hemicentral retinal artery occlusion

A 77-year-old man presented with an inferior hemivisual field defect in the left eye. Funduscopy revealed well demarcated retinal edema of the superior quadrant resembling hemicentral retinal artery occlusion. Further, the upper and inferior retinal arteries emerged separately from the optic disc. Fluorescein angiography demonstrated a marked filling delay of the upper retinal artery. We repeat...
